Position Title:  Back End For Front End Development Intern

Company Description:  myTABA is a nascent start-up that aims to create a travel recommendation platform that helps travelers plan trips more easily by drastically reducing the time it takes to research and organize travel activities. Our technology uses machine learning to recommend personalized travel experiences for our users to ensure trips are tailored just for them. We are creating tools that allow customers to organize and create their own itineraries and book these experiences on our platform. We are currently focused on the B2C market, but are planning expansion into a B2B model to provide recommendation services to travel agents and  other third party vendors to improve the efficiency of their operations by automating this process

Responsibilities will include the following:

Development of backend for frontend of the myTABA application (ideally have experience with Python or Ruby On Rails)

Implementation of responsive and user-friendly web application design
Work with backend technologies such as databases, APIs, and server-side languages
Optimize website performance by analyzing and implementing efficient code
Conduct thorough testing and debugging to ensure proper functionality and performance
Attend weekly working group meetings
Collaborate with other interns and co-founders as needed

STEAM Summer Camp Instructor

Pitt’s Community Engagement Center in the Hill District is seeking students to support our STEAM Summer Camp Programming *July 24th-28th 9:00a.m.-4:00p.m.

Camp Instructors will assist in leading programming that teaches middle school youth concepts in video game design, podcasting, creative writing, artificial intelligence, and more. Training will be provided to interested volunteers to equip them with tools to deliver this curriculum for the program. Student volunteers may also receive a stipend to support the time commitment to the program.

DS4SJ/CAASI Computer Science Summer Intern

BNY Mellon – Audit Technology Services – Summer Intern

Intern – BNY MELLON – Internal Audit Division/Audit Technical Services Team (Remote Position)

The Audit Technical Service team (ATS) is responsible for administration of all technical systems used by the Internal Audit Department.   This includes developing software, installing and configuring vendor packages, implementing enhancements as well as the daily maintenance and support of critical systems.   As an Intern with ATS you will have the opportunity to work closely with a team of IT professionals and have firsthand experience with the support and development of corporate systems.

The qualified individual should be enrolled in a 4-year degree program and must have a minimum QPA of 3.0.   Typically, the incumbent will be a junior or senior in the upcoming school year with a major in Information Systems or Computer Science. He/she will possess strong leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.  Strong communication and organizational skills are a must.  He/she should be able to work in a team environment as well as work independently.

Experience with some of the following languages and technologies are preferred, but not required: Java, XML, HTML, relational databases (specifically, MS SQL, and MS Access); .net; Visual Basic; C++. A familiarity with various data analysis tools is a plus.

Summer Intern

Undergraduates seeking an in-depth summer research experience should consider the American Student Placements in Rehabilitation Engineering (ASPIRE) program at the Human Engineering Research Laboratories.

ASPIRE is a ten-week research program at the University of Pittsburgh’s Human Engineering Research Laboratories (HERL) Sponsored by the National Science Foundation (NSF). Emphasis on research in the rehabilitation engineering and assistive technology fields. In addition to full participation in an on-going HERL research project, students are presented with numerous opportunities for personal and professional development via faculty workshops. ASPIRE participants will write a project paper, develop a poster, and compete in an elevator pitch competition based on their research assignment.  The program concludes with the Final Symposium where the winners of the best paper, poster, and elevator pitch are recognized.

PROJECT: Animation & Gamification in Human Motor Learning

RECOMMENDED SKILLS: Proficiency with programming languages/tools employed in simulation and game development (e.g., computer graphics, 2D or 3D animation & rendering, etc.)

PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project seeks to better understand how the nervous system controls voluntary movement and explores a method to enhance motor learning. A simulation already developed in MatLab uses the force applied to a sensor as a control signal. Building on the existing simulation, the goal of this internship experience is to “gamify” the simulation and make it more engaging for human subjects. No existing knowledge of physiology, biology, neuroscience, etc. is necessary, but prospective candidates will have the opportunity to gain exposure to these disciplines as part of research involving human subjects with and without neurological injury.

Electronic Resources Associate

The MIT Libraries seek a resourceful and service-oriented person to contribute to the work of our electronic resources team. This position is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in  a dynamic academic library setting. Under the direction of the Electronic Resources Librarian, this position supports the acquisition and management of electronic resources, including ordering, licensing support, establishing access, troubleshooting access problems, renewal, payment, adjusting records as titles cease/are canceled, or transferred to other publishers or hosting platforms, as well as quality control and lifecycle support.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

Ordering Support

Research and review purchase and subscription options, including pricing and other options for requested titles.
Place orders with appropriate vendors and/or publishers (via email, EDI, etc.).
Identify, create, modify, activate records in Alma, the Libraries’ Library Management System (LMS).
Create and maintain records in other tracking systems.
Licensing Support

Provide support for the licensing workflow during the order and renewal process in partnership with the licensing staff in Scholarly Communication & Collections Strategy (SCCS).
Prepare renewal forms and amendments for authorized signature.
Perform license fulfillment steps, including returning signed licenses to publishers/vendors and filing official copies
Access Set-Up for E-Resources

Coordinate the work of the vendor, publisher, interface provider, and Libraries’ technology staff to establish access for eresources.
Announce availability of E-Resources to subject selectors, and to catalogers for full cataloging.
Renewal Process

Follow annual renewal procedures for journals, databases, and other resources as needed.
Communicate with product sponsors (Collections Strategy and Analysis (CSA) or other subject specialists) about renewal options and pricing, as needed.
Perform initial negotiation with vendors, as needed, to reduce renewal price to within acceptable increase, following guidelines determined each year with CSA.
Secure invoices for renewal and code for payment.
For resources we decide not to renew, work with the vendor to complete cancellation; update records in local systems; communicate to other staff (e.g., catalogers, subject specialists, etc.) to complete their steps of the cancellation process.

Problem-Solving for E-Resources

As part of the “digprob” team, solve problems with access to electronic resources as reported by library staff and users.
Investigate data discrepancies and anomalies in our complex infrastructure for documenting and providing access to our electronic resources (namely, Staff Vera and Alma).

Liaison Responsibilities

Work closely with Collections Strategy and Analysis (CSA) staff and subject selectors regarding:
Ordering questions
Bibliographic questions
Retention decisions
Format changes, and other issues.
Work closely with catalogers, preservation staff, accounts payable, Information Delivery & Library Access (ID&LA), and technology staff to ensure effective service, communication, and problem-solving.
General Responsibilities
